Each programme combines classroom learning with hands-on workplace experience at one of Impala’s operations. What the Learnership Offers

Impala Platinum learnerships typically run for 12–24 months, depending on the field of study. Throughout the programme, learners work under the guidance of qualified artisans, engineers and mining specialists. The structure includes:

Minimum Requirements for Impala Platinum Learnership

Although requirements vary by discipline, the standard minimum criteria include:

General Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have Grade 12 / Matric
  • Must be 18–35 years old
  • Must be medically fit for underground or plant work (mine medical required)
  • Must be unemployed and available full-time
  • Must be able to work shifts, including underground duties
  • Must demonstrate responsibility, willingness to learn and safety awareness

Academic Requirements for Mining Learnerships

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science (40% or higher recommended)
  • English proficiency for communication and reporting

Academic Requirements for Engineering Learnerships

Applicants must have either:

  • An N2 Certificate with four relevant subjects, OR
  • Matric with Maths & Physical Science

Typical N2 subjects include:
