The Opportunity
We invite applications from suitably qualified and unemployed South African citizens for our Human Resources Intern position (Ref: MINTE_000372) located at our Randburg, Gauteng site.
The role is a structured internship designed to provide you with hands-on experience across key HR operational disciplines — recruitment, learning & development, compliance, and administrative support. You will work alongside seasoned HR professionals and learn in a high-performing, technology-driven research organisation.
What You’ll Be Doing – Key Responsibilities
As HR Intern, your core responsibilities will include:
- Administering the recruitment process, specifically for junior positions and talent pipeline initiatives: receiving applications, pre-screening candidates, coordinating interviews, conducting reference checks and ensuring compliance with legislation and internal policy.
- Supporting the preparation and administration of employment contracts, new-joiner documentation, pre-employment occupational health assessments, and onboarding activities.
- Assisting with the learning & development/calendar process: registering delegates for training, preparing attendance registers and evaluation forms, tracking attendance, distributing training material and supporting skills-development reporting (SETA, BEE, EE, WSP/ATR).
- Supporting bursary administration – processing payments to tertiary institutions, maintaining learning records and preparing reports.
- Demonstrating professionalism at all times, acting in line with Mintek’s values and vision, and contributing to a culture of high performance.

Minimum Requirements
- South African citizens only.
- An Honours degree (NQF Level 8) in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology or a closely relevant field (a Master’s qualification is considered advantageous).
- Unemployed graduates at the time of application (no prior full-time HR position).
- Demonstrated interest in HR and people development.
- Good proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong administrative competence.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks independently and in a team environment.
Remuneration & Contract Details
- Internship contract: Fixed-term (duration to be confirmed by Mintek).
- Remuneration: R186,180.00 per annum (market-related).
- Location: Randburg, Gauteng – applicants must be willing to travel to and/or relocate as required.
