FoodBev SETA & South West Gauteng TVET College – Engineering Apprenticeships 2026

Overview of the Engineering Apprenticeship Programme

FoodBev SETA, in partnership with South West Gauteng TVET College, is offering an Engineering Apprenticeship Programme for 2026 aimed at helping young South Africans develop practical technical skills.

This programme is designed for individuals who have completed N2 or N3 Engineering studies and want to gain hands-on workplace training while working toward becoming qualified artisans. Apprentices will receive both theoretical training at the college and practical workplace experience in the engineering and manufacturing sector.

The apprenticeship programme is ideal for candidates who are passionate about mechanical, electrical, and technical trades. Through structured training and mentorship, apprentices will gain the knowledge and practical experience needed to succeed in the engineering industry.

South Africa continues to experience a growing demand for skilled artisans and technical professionals, especially in industries such as manufacturing, engineering, food production, and maintenance services. This programme aims to help address that demand by preparing qualified technicians and artisans for the workforce.

Engineering Fields Offered

The apprenticeship programme provides training in several important engineering trade fields. These trades are essential in manufacturing plants, engineering workshops, factories, and maintenance environments.

Fitter and Turner

The Fitter and Turner trade focuses on assembling, repairing, and maintaining mechanical equipment and machinery. Apprentices will learn how to use engineering tools, operate lathes and milling machines, and manufacture mechanical components used in industrial equipment.

This field is essential in manufacturing, mining, and industrial production facilities.

Mechanical Fitter

Mechanical Fitters are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial machines and mechanical systems. During the apprenticeship, trainees will gain experience working with pumps, conveyors, compressors, and other mechanical equipment used in industrial environments.

This trade offers opportunities in sectors such as engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance.

Electrician

The Electrician field focuses on electrical installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Apprentices will learn how to install electrical wiring, troubleshoot electrical faults, and maintain industrial electrical systems.

Electricians play an important role in ensuring that factories, plants, and facilities operate safely and efficiently.

Each of these trades provides strong career prospects and the potential to work in a wide range of industries.
